LITTLE FEAT

Join the Band (429): B-

If more evidence is needed that Little Feat is straightaway a route band, pure and simple, this is it. The albums all-star roster of designated vocalists - including Dave Matthews, Bob Seger, Jimmy Buffett, Chris Robinson and Brooks & Dunn - cant provide half the firepower that Feat alone generates in its jam-heavy live shows. And while its a kick back to hear Vince Gill tackle Dixie Chicken and Jimmy Buffett assay Time Loves a Hero, the albums otherwise flat arrangements and predictable tune choices prove that this storeyed band doesnt take trajectory these days until the curtain goes up. Download: Oh Atlanta, featuring Chris Robinson.

LLOYD

Lessons in Love (The Inc./Universal Motown) : B-

Theres no doubt that Atlanta native Lloyd is talented. Smooth, sexy voice? Check. Sultry, urban-pop production? Check. But does r & b really motive another sex-obsessed crooner wHO would quite unleash his inner junky than make quality classics? Absolutely non. Lloyds superlative assets thus far have been his class and diversity of material, which, coupled with his vocal and dance ability, could have put him into the Usher echelons of the urban pop world. Instead hes made the majority of his well-crafted but in the end tired third album a series of come-ons, only when proving hes more inclined to comply trends than to gear up them.
